Jim, as he prefers to be called, was born on January 24, l936 in the small town of Simcoe, near the shores of Lake Erie in Southern Ontario.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy Fleet Air Arm, arriving in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia for basic naval and military training in March 1953. On completion of basic training, he was posted to Royal Canadian Naval Air Station Shearwater, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for trades training in aircraft maintenance and overhaul. Starting off in the Aero Engine trade, later qualifying in the Airframe trade and still later changing over to the Air Avionics trade (Radio Radar).
After completing 25 years service and on retirement he purchased a small farm in Cape Breton and began beef farming for nine years, then returned to the Aerospace industry, working for IMP at the Halifax Airport as an aircraft overhaul inspector, finally retiring in 1998.
Jim's Masonic career commenced in St. Mark's Lodge #35 Baddeck, N.S. where he was:
Affiliated with Ashlar #107, Musquodoboit Harbour - June 1993 and installed as Worshipful Master Ashlar #107 - January 1998.
Appointed to the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia as Junior Grand Deacon 2000/2001.
Currently serving as Grand Representative of Grand Lodge of Niger.
Jim is a member of St. Andrews-Renown #2/19 chapter Royal Arch, receiving the Capitular degrees of

Jim was accepted into Chebucto-Richardson Council #3 Royal and Select Masters and received the Cryptic Rite Degrees of:
Jim is currently serving as an officer in Antiquity Perceptory #5, having received the Order of the Red Cross and Proclaimed a Knight of Malta in April 2000. He was received as a Knight of the Order of the Temple in May 2000.
Jim was invited to join The Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and admitted to Royal Edward Conclave #8, Halifax, N.S. in April 2005 where he currently serves as one of its officers.
