Most Excellent Companion Thomas Ronald Tallon was born March 4, 1933, in Humberstone, Ontario, second son of Thomas Michael and Maude (Dunn) Tallon. He was educated in Ontario, at Elementary School in Sherkston and Massey, High School in Espanola, Teachers' College in North Bay, and University in Sudbury.
In September of 1953, he began his career as a school teacher at Gatchell, Ontario. For the next thirty-five years he taught in and was Principal of many Ontario schools. The last eight years of his career were spent at the central board office of The Peel Board of Education in the Personnel Department where he was second in command and assisted in the hiring and firing of staff and negotiating seven contracts with various Unions and Teachers' Federations. Ron presented many workshops to Teachers and Principals throughout Ontario over the years.
In December of 1953, he married Marguerite Rose Wilson and together they raised their only child, James Daniel (J.D.), now living in Dartmouth, NS. Ron and Marg are very proud of their five grandchildren, Jeffery, Ashley, Alexander, Adam and Isaac.
In 1959, Ron became a Master Mason in Bethel Lodge No. 699 in Sudbury, where he progressed through the chairs to be Senior Warden in 1966. In September of 1966, he moved to Brampton, Ontario and became the Worshipful Master of Ionic Lodge No. 229 in February of 1967. In 1970, he was exalted to the Sublime Degree of the Holy Royal Arch in Peel Chapter No. 195 GRC in Brampton.
In June 1988, after thirty five years in Education, the Tallons retired to Prince Edward Island where they built a home in Sherwood. Ron became an affiliated P.M. of Victoria Lodge No. 2, where he continues to participate to the full in degree work and enjoys the fellowship. In 1999, Brother Tallon was made a Past Master of Victoria Lodge No. 2 by Wor. Bro. Sean MacIntosh.
Ron also affiliated with Alexandra Chapter No. 11 of Royal Arch Masons and, after being healed, became the High Priest in 1999 and received the Order of High Priesthood. He became Secretary of Alexandra Chapter No. 11, and was appointed Assistant Grand Secretary of the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia for District No. 5. He was appointed to the Ritual and Education Committee of Grand Chapter for the year 2000, to the Board of General Purposes for the year 2002, was elected as Grand Scribe in May, 2003, as Grand King in May, 2004, and finally to the ultimate office of Most Excellent Grand High Priest in May 2005. In those capacities, he has travelled extensively throughout Canada and the USA.
In 1999, he was elected as the Presiding Preceptor of Prince Edward Preceptory No. 35, then served as its Secretary for one year and then as Treasurer. He was appointed as the Secretary of District 6 of the Sovereign Great Priory of Canada in 2001 and as Grand Standard Bearer in 2002.
Ron is also a member of Garden of the Gulf Council No. 9 of Royal and Select Masters in Charlottetown, and of Monckton Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners (moored to Tantramar Council No. 8 in Moncton, NB). He was appointed to the office of Director of Ceremonies within Monckton Lodge in 2003.
He is also an officer of Royal Island Conclave No. 28 of the Red Cross of Constantine, and of Nova Scotia Conclave No. 6, Order of the Secret Monitor, Mount Uniacke, NS., where he also takes the Lead role in presentation of the Second Degree.
In 2003, he became a member of the Order of Knight of York in Nova Scotia York Rite College No. 132, Truro, NS.
Besides his work in Freemasonry, Ron has been a Cub Master, member of the Sudbury Male Chorus, member of the Rotary Club of Brampton, Clerk of Session of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Brampton, Lay Preacher both in Brampton and Charlottetown, member of the History Committee at St. James Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown, has conducted Protestant Services at the Chapel in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, visited elderly people as a Red Cross Visitor, and delivered meals on wheels on a regular basis. Ron is an avid hockey fan, cross country skier, canoeist and traveller. Ron and Marg have tented, trailered or otherwise travelled extensively in every Province in Canada including Newfoundland and Labrador.
Ron loves Freemasonry, continues to perform ritual and educational talks with great care, and endeavours to portray the importance of continuous learning.
