V. Wor. Brother Roy E. Lively was born in Halifax on March 30, 1942. He married his wife Doreen in 1960 and they had two sons, Richard and Darren and one daughter, Nadine. Since then they have been blessed with three grandchildren.
Roy is a member of St. Luke's Church were he has serves as warden and member of the council for the past twenty-six years. He is a committee group leader for the Second Westphal Cubs & Scouts Club and enjoys working with young people.
He is a businessman and owner of two refrigeration and ventilation companies in Nova Scotia and one refrigeration company in Havana, Cuba. In 1994 he was appointed the refrigeration technical advisor of Cuba and helped open the doors for trade between Canada and Cuba.
His Masonic endeavours began in 1980 when he joined Athole Lodge #15. He served as Master of the lodge in 1985, as Director of Ceremonies and he has served as secretary of the lodge for the past eleven years. He is a member of St. John's Lodge #2 and Fairview Lodge #126 were he serves in the office of Director of Ceremonies.
Brother Lively was made Grand Stewart of The Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia in 1986. He joined The Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite in 1981 and received his thirty-second degree in 1982. He is a Past Most Wise Sovereign of Keith's Chapter were he served from 1995 to 1997. He is very active and is presently serving in the office as Rev. Prellet and is the Director of the twenty-third degree.
In 1983 he joined The Royal Arch and is a member of St. Andrew's Chapter #2, Royal Union Chapter #1 and Renown Chapter #19. He served as High Priest in St. Andrew's Chapter in 1986 and was installed as The Grand Superintendent of District #1 and served in the office from 1990 to 1992. He was elected to serve as Grand Scribe in 2001, as Grand King in 2002 and in 2003 he was installed as The Most Excellent Grand High Priest of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. He is the Past Honourable Grand High Priest of Newfoundland and The Past Honourable Grand First Principle of New Brunswick. In 2004 he was made the Representative to The Grand Chapter of New Hampshire.
Brother Lively joined The Knights Templar Antiquity Preceptory #5 in 1984 and is serving in the office of second standard bearer at this time. In 1987 he joined The Cryptic Rite Chebucto Council #3 and Charles Richardson Council where he served as Thrice Illustrious Master in 1992. He joined The Royal Arc Mariner's in 1989 and in 1990 he joined The York Rite College #132 and is serving in the office of 3rd Standard.
In 1990 he joined The Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests order of Holy Wisdom St. Andrew's Tabernacle #85 and is presently holding the office of 1st Pillar. In March 1992 he joined The UCC of E Neptune Council #71 and served as Worthy Chief in 1995 and was elected as Grand Deputy Worthy Chief in 1998.
He joined The Conclave Royal Edward #8 in 2003 and is presently serving in the office of Herald. Brother Lively joined Philae Temple Shrine in 1986 and in April 2004 he was inducted into the order of The Secret Monitor when asked why he joined masonry he replied, " It's a way of life that's all I can say. I come from a family of Masons and the most important thing to me is my family, my church and my craft. What else could a man ask for, it's a great way to live."
