Most Excellent Companion MacLean was born in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on July 25th, 1946. Educated at Inverness Consolidated High School, he continued his education at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology, Leeds St. under the pre-apprenticeship program in Motor Vehicle Repair. He completed his training at what is now the University Collage of Cape Breton, Sydney, NS.
Married to the former Pauline Betts in 1977, he has two daughters, April age 23 and Kimberley age 17.
Companion MacLean has been employed for the past 24 years as a Service Technician for the Strait Regional School Board. Active in his community, he is a member of the Alexander Grant Memorial United Church and served as an Elder for a four year term. He currently sits on the Manse Committee. He is President of the Lake Ainslie Historical Society which operates the MacDonald House Museum and a member of the Board of Directors.
His community involvement also includes the Margaree-Lake Ainslie committee to oversee and implement the plan for the designation of the River system as a Canadian Heritage River. He is a member of the Nova Scotia Highland Village Society and volunteers at various functions.
He was initiated Entered Apprentice in Sircom Lodge #66 on February 1, 1979, passed Fellowcraft on March 1, 1979 and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason April 5, 1979. He served as Master of Sircom Lodge in 1984 and 1985. He is Past High Priest of Keystone Chapter #24, Royal Arch Masons, Port Hawkesbury and served as District Superintendent, District #4 in 1994-1995.
He is a member of Cape Breton Preceptory #43 and presently holds the office of Marshal in royal Cape Breton Conclave #39, Order of the Red Cross of Constantine. He is also a member of Dr. Gordon MacLeod Chapter #37, O.E.S.
