Graduated, Kings County Academy, Kentville; University of Kings College, Halifax, NS. BA, 1951; Dalhousie University Law School, Halifax, NS, LLB, 1953. Called to the Nova Scotia Bar 1953.

PROFESSIONAL

Practised law with firms of Shaw, Waterbury and Black, later Waterbury and Black of Kentville. Former member of the Nova Scotia Barrister's Council. Appointed a Judge of the Juvenile Court for the Province of Nova Scotia, 1961 - Chief Judge of the Family Court for the Province of Nova Scotia, June 1984. Chainnan, Annual Nova Scotia Family Court Judges, Education Conference. Former Chairman Canadian Council of Chief Judges. Appointed Judge of the Provincial Court for the Province of Nova Scotia 1989. Retired July 31, 1994. During the term of Judge and Chief Judge, in 1961 assumed the responsibility of locating suitable and physical arrangements for the Court, and set out policies in co-operation with the other Judges with respect to rules, procedure, social aspects and services required for a properly administered Juvenile and Family Court_ always keeping in mind the welfare of children, young people and families. During service with the Courts membership on the Bench went from 4 in 1961 to 18 in 1994, with _jurisdiction increasing to all family matters except Divorce and Division of Property, but including Maintenance, Custody and Access.

CHURCH AND CIVIC

Member of the Anglican Church of Canada; former member of Vestry, delegate to Synod, former Warden and Council member, St. John's Anglican Church, Parish of Cornwallis. Scouting - 16 years. Former Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, Assistant Provincial Commissioner, Chairman Group Committee, Presented 10-year Long Service Award. Children's Aid Society of Kings County, former member of the Board of Directors for 9 years. V.O.N. Past President of the Kentville Board. Held several offices of the Kings County Young Progressive Conservative Association, and the Kings North Progressive Conservative Association. Member of several Civic Boards of the Community of Hall's Harbour, NS.
